If you have recently walked into Santiago and have collected your well-deserved Compostela, you may have noticed changes in the Pilgrim’s Office. A different method began to be used for pilgrims requesting the Compostela at the end of the Camino De Santiago.
The new system hopes to avoid long queues. A number and a QR code must be taken personally when you arrive at the Pilgrim’s Office. This way you will be given an estimate of time when you can collect your Compostela. There are new rest areas and gardens installed so you can relax after your walk.
You can see which number the volunteers are assisting and you will get an idea how long you will be waiting. There are screens found throughout the Office. You can also see your number and the current number being assisted on your mobile, see above. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There was a 3 – 3.5 hour wait for a Compostela at the Pilgrims Office in Santiago yesterday morning (Tuesday September 17th 2019). From talking to the volunteers and waiting Pilgrims this seems to be the average waiting time over the course of the last few weeks. Just something to bear in mind if you are considering leaving collecting your Compostela until the day you are flying home. Don’t get caught out !
